Nucleate is a global, volunteer-led 501(c)(3) nonprofit founded in 2018 at Harvard University, representing the largest student/trainee bio-innovator community worldwide. Its flagship Activator program empowers life science trainees (PhDs, MDs, MBAs, postdocs) to spin out ventures addressing human health (Bio Track) and planetary health (Eco Track: sustainability, food, energy, agriculture), bridging academia and industry through mutual-matching team formation, mentorship, legal and clinical consulting, and a Demo Day/Forum pitch. Activator runs in-person across 18 chapters spanning 40+ regions and 280+ academic institutions worldwide, plus a Global Virtual track for founders without a local chapter. No equity is taken, and IP from academic labs stays with the originating institution. Beyond Activator, Nucleate runs PATH (career development), Research, and Dojo, a subsidiary for undergraduate biotech talent. Its 2026 cohort selected 180 teams from 2,200+ applicants. Since founding, Activator has incorporated 303 companies, with alumni raising $650M+ and creating 1,000+ jobs. It ranked No. 54 on TIME and Statista’s 2026 list of America’s Best Incubators and Accelerators.
