Gulf Blue Navigator is a blue-tech accelerator run by the University of Southern Mississippi Research Foundation as the flagship program of USM’s Gulf Blue initiative, launched in 2021 to build a blue-economy innovation hub on the Mississippi Gulf Coast. The program targets late-stage bluetech startups that have deployed a minimum viable product in a pilot and have under $1 million in recurring revenue, connecting them with federal agencies, university researchers and regional industry partners. Companies gain access to the Gulf & Ship Island Building co-working space, the Marine Research Center’s wet labs and test tank, the Thad Cochran Marine Aquaculture Center, and year-round on-water testing at the Port of Gulfport. The program runs four months, held partly in Gulfport and partly online, and concludes with a public Demo Day during Gulf Blue Innovation Week, funded through the RESTORE Act alongside private and public partners. Four cohorts of six companies each have completed the program since a 2022-23 pilot. Gulf Blue Navigator ranks 52nd on the 2026 TIME and Statista list of America’s Best Incubators and Accelerators.
