BioGenerator is the startup-building and investment arm of BioSTL, a St. Louis nonprofit that has grown the region’s bioscience economy since 2004. It works through two connected engines: BioGenerator Ventures, which makes staged equity investments as companies hit technical and business milestones and syndicates deals with outside venture capital, and BioGenerator Labs, which provides shared wet-lab space in two St. Louis districts (Cortex for human health, 39 North for agtech), executive coaching, and non-dilutive Proof of Concept grants of a few thousand dollars up to $50,000. Rather than running a fixed-cohort application process, BioGenerator sources and builds companies directly, often spinning them out of Washington University in St. Louis research, and staffs them with Entrepreneurs and Executives in Residence. BioGenerator has invested more than $50 million into over 130 St. Louis startups, which have collectively raised $2.8 billion in outside capital, a 60-to-1 leverage on its own investment. BioGenerator ranks 43rd on the 2026 TIME and Statista list of America’s Best Incubators and Accelerators.
