AlphaLab is the flagship accelerator of Innovation Works, one of the most active early-stage investors in Pennsylvania, based in Pittsburgh. Founded in 2008 by Jim Jen as one of the first 10 accelerators in the US and a founding charter member of the Global Accelerator Network, AlphaLab runs four industry tracks — Software (2008), Gear (hardware, 2013), Health (life sciences, 2020, with Allegheny Health Network and a new Neuroscience track launching 2027), and Robotics Factory (robotics and automation) — under one shared six-month program. All startups receive the same core “customers, capital, community” curriculum, dedicated Pittsburgh office space, structured mentorship, and a Demo Day pitch to investors. In 2024, AlphaLab Health became an evergreen fund after a $10M anonymous grant, aiming to invest in 60+ startups over the next decade. Since 2008, AlphaLab has supported 300+ startups, with alumni raising $1.4 billion+ in follow-on funding across 20+ exits and 2 unicorns, including The Zebra, Gridwise, and Honeycomb Credit. It ranked No. 47 on TIME and Statista’s 2026 list of America’s Best Incubators and Accelerators.
