Ann Arbor SPARK is a nonprofit economic development organization serving Washtenaw County and the greater six-county Ann Arbor region, founded in 2005 to replace the earlier Washtenaw Development Council. Its core startup offering is the Entrepreneur Boot Camp, an eight-week, Lean Startup-based program held twice a year for teams of two to four, guiding early-stage tech founders through customer discovery for a fee with partial scholarships and no equity taken. Around it sit Startup Acceleration (rolling grants, mentor matching and skills workshops), Coaching & Mentorship, including an Entrepreneur-in-Residence program and a subsidized startup internship program, SPARK Coworking space, and SPARK Capital, SPARK’s own co-investment fund. A separate Small Business Support initiative offers free coaching and business-intelligence tools to any small business, not just tech startups, across three counties. Eligible tech startups must be located in Ann Arbor or Ypsilanti, have under $5 million in revenue or capital raised, and show scalable, high-growth potential, typically in one of the region’s recognized industry clusters: mobility, AI, biotechnology, clean energy or cybersecurity. Since 2005, SPARK has assisted more than 200 startups and helped facilitate more than $12 billion in regional investment. Ann Arbor SPARK ranks 41st on the 2026 TIME and Statista list of America’s Best Incubators and Accelerators.
